Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) Superintendent/CEO Traci Thorpe was recently honored with the Bob Funk Advocate of Excellence Award during the Oklahoma Summit, hosted by the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education (OkACTE).

The statewide award is presented annually to an individual who demonstrates exceptional advocacy for Oklahoma's CareerTech system and actively champions career and technology education, its educators, and staff.

Thorpe's CareerTech journey began at Pioneer Tech as an instructor for the SHARE Program, where she helped develop and implement the district's dropout recovery program. Her career at PTC continued through several leadership positions, including Director of Special Programs and Executive Director of Instructional and Support Services, Deputy Superintendent and then she was named Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer in July of 2018.

Throughout her career, Thorpe has remained an active advocate for career and technology education at both the local and state levels. Her leadership includes service on numerous community boards and participation in statewide initiatives focused on advancing CareerTech education and strengthening connections among education, business and industry.

Thorpe has also been a dedicated leader within OkACTE and currently chairs the Superintendents' Legislative Committee. Through this work, she continues to champion opportunities and initiatives that support CareerTech students, educators and programs throughout Oklahoma.

The Bob Funk Advocate of Excellence Award reflects Thorpe's commitment to CareerTech throughout a career that has taken her from working directly with students in the classroom to leading Pioneer Technology Center and advocating for career and technology education across the state.
