Three Cosmetology students and the instructor

Three cosmetology students from Pioneer Technology Center—Hailey Caniz-Lopez, Jordyn Smith, and Danielle Hopkins—recently raised $5,000 to benefit Oklahoma veterans in need of service dogs. The students, all active members of SkillsUSA, presented the donation to Honoring America’s Warriors, an Oklahoma-based nonprofit that provides fully trained assistance dogs to disabled Veterans at no cost. Their fundraising efforts included a chicken noodle dinner, a “Clips for a Cause” event, and a raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses. During the check presentation, the students met with Scotty Deatherage, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the organization, who explained that the donation would help purchase three puppies to begin training for future veteran partnerships. They also witnessed a demonstration by service dog Tinkerbell, illustrating the impact these dogs have on veterans' daily lives.

“Meeting Scotty and seeing Tinkerbell in action really brought home how important these service dogs are,” said student Danielle Hopkins. Cosmetology instructor Kayla Randol praised the students for their dedication, noting how the project started as a simple service initiative and grew into something deeply meaningful. Honoring America’s Warriors remains the only organization in Oklahoma dedicated to providing assistance dogs, training, and care to Veterans, and each trained dog is valued at approximately $50,000. The success of this fundraiser reflects Pioneer Tech’s commitment to leadership, service, and real-world learning that enhances lives and strengthens communities.
