Thirteen students recently graduated from Pioneer Technology Center’s (PTC) Practical Nursing (PN) program. Included in the event, graduates participated in a candle lighting ceremony and recited the Nurse’s Pledge. According to Joella Francis, PTC PN coordinator, three of these students have already passed the Oklahoma Board of Nursing licensing examination and are presently practicing as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Catchum Gregory and Natalie Varner graduated with Honors. Catchum Gregory and Christina Smith were recognized as members of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). Catchum Gregory and Laura Tiemann received special certificates for Outstanding Dedication. PTC’s Practical Nursing program has a flexible format and its scheduling allows students to attend class on a part-time or full-time basis as long as they meet curriculum requirements. Instructors are available in the classroom, lab and clinical areas for group and individualized instruction. Practical nursing students are trained in all aspects of nursing including basic sciences, medications, growth and development, disease processes for all ages, pregnancy and childbirth, and nursing ethics. In addition to classroom instruction, students have opportunities to help them gain clinical experience at various health care sites. For more information about Pioneer Technology Center’s Practical Nursing program, call 580.762.8336, or stop by the PTC campus at 2101 N. Ash in Ponca City.
