Local Students and Teachers Participate in Fall Leadership Conference at Oklahoma City University where they received the Community Service Project Award
The Pioneer Technology Center Business Professionals of America (BPA) officer team recently "Unlocked New Potential" in Oklahoma City. Officers from the morning and afternoon programs for the Business and Information Technology Education (BITE) program participated in the 2008 Oklahoma BPA Fall Leadership Conference on October 20th at Oklahoma City University. All students attending the conference were exposed to a variety of leadership immersion activities as well as workshops pertaining to the local offices they hold. Each officer received a handbook guiding them through how to be the best officer they can be, which will help Pioneer Technology Center’s BPA chapter have an extremely successful year. Pioneer Technology Center also received the award for the community service project. This project allowed each school to participate in the "Chain of Love" promotion, which provides donations for Special Olympics. Pioneer Technology Center was recognized as the school that raised the most money for this worthy cause.
Approximately 1000 high school, middle school and post secondary students attended the Fall Leadership Conference. All attendees experienced a dynamic keynote presentation from a well-known business leader in Oklahoma, Vince Orza. They also participated in a Leadership Academy with John Talley, equipping them with the valuable tools they need to "Unlock New Potential" for their local chapter. The day came to a close with the traditional Torch Ceremony, put on by the Oklahoma State Officer Team, which exhibits the nine torches of BPA representing the core characteristics all leaders must possess in order to be successful.
