Scott Presents at National Conference
Mary Scott, Pioneer Technology Center’s (PTC) Adult Basic Education (ABE)/GED coordinator, was an Incentive Grant Award recipient at last year’s National Commision On Adult Basic Education (COABE). This year Scott was one of 300 to present at the conference. The Incentive Grants are sponsored by the Dollar General Foundation and are given annually at the national conference.

Scott fulfilled her grant by presenting at the 2010 conference. She wrote, produced, and presented a PowerPoint presentation training called "Keep Them Coming." This presentation was presented to adult educators to help with the problem of retaining adult students. It gave them some fresh new ideas on how to keep adult student coming to class on a regular basis in spite of all the personal barriers students have in their lives.

COABE and Pro Literacy , a national organization for adult literacy programs, together sponsored the confrence this year at the Hilton Chicago in dowtown Chicago, Illinois for members of both organizations.

Scott said,"Retention has been an ongoing problem in our adult education programs . By developing this powerpoint I gained a lot of good insight and ideas for helping our program locally and hopefully across the state.”
