PTC Graduate Hopes to Fill Fairfax’s Future Needs in Automotive Repair

Joseph Minor talks about the automotive business in Fairfax. Minor, a Pioneer Technology Center graduate hopes to fill Fairfax’s future needs in automotive repair.

Joseph Minor has worked on cars his entire life. He is not all that different from most men. They love cars and often learn from their fathers how to care for them. Minor took that a step further and attended Pioneer Technology Center’s Automotive Repair Service Technology training before joining Beuchler Auto Sales and Service recently as a repair technician.

Minor, a Fairfax resident, was an award winner at the district and state level while at Pioneer Technology Center. His talent has translated into a zest for learning and the continuance of quality automotive service in Fairfax. After his dad’s lessons, Minor has started on the path to learning all he can about repairing cars. He is currently working on restoring a 1981 Ford Fairmont. He pulled the car out of a field and is now completely rebuilding the engine. He hopes to someday finish the project by replacing the cream and brown color the car is currently with a new coat of paint.

“I am a person that believes in function over form,” said Minor. “It better run before it looks good.”

Right now Minor is focused on learning all he can about car repair as an apprentice in the Buechler shop. He sees an opportunity for progression in the future and knows that there are few people pursuing the automotive field in Fairfax. He has stepped up to fill the need in order to ensure the business and the money stay in Fairfax rather than getting outsourced to other areas.

“The courses at Pioneer are a great step into automotive repair,” said Minor. “I know a lot, but at the same time I have a lot to learn.”

Minor hopes to own an automotive shop one day and he hopes that will happen in Fairfax.

“The kids have to step up and take care of [business] here or it’s going to go away,” said Minor.

He hopes that other community members will work together to keep business and the town going. The trend right now is for students from Fairfax to continue their education and more than half of Fairfax’s eligible students are currently attending Pioneer Technology Center. This small community will need their sights set on keeping business moving for the town and the education and training at Pioneer Technology Center is one way to do that.
