Welding Students Pass Certification Tests

Pioneer Technology Center's (PTC) Welding Technology students recently passed their qualification tests as defined by the American Welding Society. Those passing tests include (left to right): Brandon Owings, Oklahoma Pipe Certification, SMAW process; Sean Copple, Structural Steel certification with SMAW process; Shaun Dauzat, Structural Steel Certification with SMAW process; Justin Jenkins, Structural Steel certification with SMAW and FCAW processes; Casey Linton, Structural Steel Certification with SMAW and FCAW processes; and George Bohon, Oklahoma Pipe Certification with SMAW process and Combination Pipe GTAW/SMAW process.
According to Ted Rowe, welding technology instructor, the AWS certification is a national certification for welders who have met high standards and demonstrated quality work through different tests specified by the organization.
PTC welding students learn to use a variety of processes including Oxyfuel, Carbon Arc, and Plasma Arc Cutting, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) processes. Students also receive instruction in layout, inspection, safety and metal fabrication. Mr. Jim Larmore from Bartlesville, served as the AWS/CWI inspector for the test.
The American Welding Society is the largest organization in the world that is dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of materials joining. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, AWS serves over 50,000 members in the United States and around the world.
